Abstract

This study deals with “Türk Ocakları” (Turkish Societies) in the Rize province in theRepublic period. The societies were founded in three districts of the province. Thesedistricts are the center, Athens (Pazar) and Hopa. The obtained information aboutthese societies is limited and mostly belongs to “Rize (Center) Türk Ocağı”. There isnot any tangible information on the activities of the other two societies. For thisreason, the effects of “Rize Türk Ocağı” on the social life of Rize during the Republicperiod have been tried to be revealed in the study. The assets of the societiestransferred to the CHF (Republican People's Party) after their closure in 1931 havebeen also included in the study. It has been concluded that “Rize Türk Ocağı” was notvery active and supported the revolutions, and that its members were also supportersof CHF or those who were close to the party. Another result obtained from the studyis that “Hopa and Pazar Türk Ocakları” were engaged in some activities even at aminimum level.In the study; newspapers and archives as well as primary andsecondary sources were utilized.
