Psychometric Properties of The Curative Climate Questionnaire-Turkish Version

Abstract

Objective: The Curative Climate Questionnaire measuresthe curative factors in group psychotherapy. The CurativeClimate Questionnaire has three subscales: Cohesion,Insight, and Catharsis. These three factors are suggestedto be the main curative factors implicated in progress ingroup psychotherapy. Even though group psychotherapyis an effective method in providing services to alleviatepsychological difficulties, the resources which measurecurative factors, group dynamics or processes are limitedin Turkey. This study aimed to translate and adapt theCurative Climate Questionnaire into Turkish to allow forits future uses in clinical and research settings. Method:Fifty psychotherapists were administered the CurativeClimate Questionnaire and MultidimensionalRelationship Questionnaire on the fourth day of thegroup psychotherapy training. The training had didactic,supervision, and experiential parts. Factor structure wasanalyzed by employing Principal Component andConfirmatory Factor Analyses. Results: Turkish version ofthe Curative Climate Questionnaire had a three factorstructure similar to the English version. Three items wereomitted for the data to fit the model. The CronbachAlpha level for Insight was .87, for Catharsis was .88,and for Cohesion was .84. Criterion validity was established by the Multidimensional RelationshipQuestionnaire. Conclusion: The findings showed thatthe Curative Climate Questionnaire Turkish version hadgood reliability and validity. The findings supportedinclusion of the Catharsis subscale in the CurativeClimate Questionnaire
