Abstract
This study is the investigation of the Johnson Letter, which carries the signature ofthe U.S. President Johnson, written on 6th, June, 1964 right after the Turkey'sdecision in interference to Cyprus and its effects on the basis of Hürriyet Newspaperwith the method of discourse analysis. In the 1960s, the violence acts in Cyprusreached a peak point. Turkey's efforts to find a solution to this matter and its foreignand domestic behaviour in the milestones of Cyprus History are examined, theprocess until 1964 is observed and with the discourse method the Cyprus news ofHürriyet Newspaper, which is recognized as the leading newspaper of the Turkishpress, are investigated from the months April to June of the year 1964. Althoughthere are many studies regarding the Cyprus problem in the literature, there are onlya few studies based on the discourse analysis of a newspaper; thus it has beenconsidered that this present study will contribute to the literature. This study consistsof two chapters: History of Cyprus and the Discourse Analysis of HürriyetNewspaper issues from April to June 1964. For the first chapter a wide literaturescan is made and for the second chapter all Hürriyet Newspaper issues from April toJune 1964 are scanned.
