Establishment of Local Painting Tradition and Its Representatives in Urfa

Abstract

In Urfa, after the 1960s, it is seen that some local or self-taught artists painted in their own workshops with their limited artistic knowledge. These painters, depicting various historical and architectural values of Urfa, developed a school over time and continued to exist until today. Urfa's local painters, independent of the history of general art and contemporary achievements, have been added to the painting history of Turkey by opening a new space for them with their special creations which are different from other local painters in Turkey in terms of their style. In this study, in order to understand the development of local painters, information about the historical development of plastic arts in Urfa was given. Moreover, the works of some of the leading master painters of this tradition were studied in terms of color, composition, space and subject characteristics.

Özet

1960’lardan sonra Urfa’da mahallî ya da alaylı olarak adlandırabileceğimiz bazı ressamların kendi atölyelerinde sınırlı sanatsal bilgileriyle resim yaptıkları görülür. Urfa’nın çeşitli tarihi ve mimari değerlerini resmeden bu ressamlar, zamanla belli bir çizgide gelişim göstererek ekolleşmiş ve varlığını günümüze kadar sürdürmüşlerdir. Urfalı mahallî ressamlar, genel sanat tarihinden ve güncel kazanımlardan bağımsız, üslup yönünden Türkiye’deki diğer mahallî ressamlardan farklı olarak ortaya koydukları özel yaratımlarıyla kendilerine yeni bir alan açarak Türkiye resim tarihine eklemlenmişlerdir. Bu çalışmada; mahallî ressamların gelişiminin iyi anlaşılabilmesi için Urfa’da plastik sanatların tarihsel gelişimiyle ilgili bilgiler verilmiştir. Bununla birlikte, bu geleneğin bazı önde gelen usta ressamların çalışmaları; renk, kompozisyon, mekân ve konu özellikleri bakımından incelenmeye çalışılmıştır.
