Pseudothrombocytopenia owing to etylenediaminetetra-acetic acid inchildren with Ewing sarcoma

Abstract
There are many causes of thrombocytopenia. These causes may be either pathologic or non-pathologic such as platelet activation during blood collection, undercounting of megatrombocytes, in vitro agglutination of platelets due to EDTA, monoclonal antibodies that bind to platelet glycoprotein receptors. Differential diagnosis which is performed fast might prevent both mis- and delayed diagnosis about emergency owing to thrombocytopenia and unnecessary diagnostic tests and treatment with excluding pseudothrombocytopenia which is the most frequent cause of thrombocytopenia. Herein, we presented pseudothrombocytopenia due to EDTA in a child with Ewing sarcoma.
Özet
Trombositopenin birçok nedeni vardır. Bu nedenler ya patolojik ya da kan verilmesi sırasında trombositlerin aktivasyonu, megatrombositlerin sayılamaması, EDTA nedeniyle trombositlerin in vitro aglütinasyonu, trombosit glikoprotein reseptörlerine bağlanan monoklonal antikorlar gibi patolojik olmayabilir. Ayırıcı tanının hızlı yapılması hem acil durumların atlanmasını hemde en sık trombositopeni nedenlerinden biri olan psödotombositopenin ekartasyonu ile gereksiz tetkik ve tedavilerin yapılmasını önleyecektir. Burada EDTA'ya bağlı psödotrombositopeni olgusu sunuldu.
