Education in Tosya: According to the Kastamonu Province Yearbooks (1869-1903)

Abstract

Tosya, was a town that connected to Kastamonu province at the end of XIX. century, positioned as a significant center in terms of history and culture. Along with this feature, it has been quite influential in the educational and cultural life of the both Ottoman and Principalities periods, and also played crucial roles in the training of some important personalities such as Kazasker Mustafa İzzet Efendi, Celalzâde Mustafa Çelebi and Reisülküttap Ebubekir Ratıp Efendi. In this study, the educational case of Tosya province in the years between 1869-1903 will be discussed by looking at the Kastamonu province yearbooks of Tosya.

Özet

Tosya, XIX. yüzyılın sonlarında Kastamonu vilâyetine bağlı bir kaza olup; tarihî ve kültürel yönden önemli bir merkez konumundadır. Bu özelliği ile gerek Beylikler ve gerekse Osmanlı Dönemi eğitim ve kültür hayatında etkili olmuş; Kazasker Mustafa İzzet Efendi, Celalzâde Mustafa Çelebi ve Reisülküttap Ebubekir Ratip Efendi gibi önemli şahsiyetlerin yetişmesinde önemli roller üstlenmiştir. Bu çalışmada, Tosya ilçesinin Kastamonu Vilâyet Salnâmeleri göz önüne alınarak 1869-1903 yılları arasındaki eğitim durumu ele alınmıştır.
