ANAMUR AND ANAMUR’S VOICE RADIO AS AN EFFECTIVE PROPAGANDA WAY IN TURKISH CYPRIOT STRUGGLE HISTORY

Abstract

The Republic of Cyprus established under the guarantee of Turkey, Greece andthe United Kingdom on 16th August 1960 unfortunately doesn’t last long, and the abovementionedrepublic gets demolished after the Greek Cypriot assaults started due to theAkritas Plan aiming to kill all the Turkish Cypriots on the island so as to make the island aGreek island on 21st December 1963. Subsequent to the period mostly known as the BloodyChristmas, The Greek Cypriot assaults continue, and the Turkish Cypriots start leaving theirhomes back, and try to go to safer places. Then they manage to establish their first radio stationnames Bayrak in difficulty and simplicity to inform their availability to the public abroad.In addition to the radio station on the island, another station is established in Anamur, thesouthernmost point of Turkey being very close to Cyprus. Doing so, the propaganda activitiescontinue nonstop, and it is hardly possible for the Greek Cypriots to keep track and to controlits broadcasting. This scientific study will focus on Anamur Radio Station starting from 1963up to 1974 in detail.
