SERIK GOVERNANCE OF THE REPUBLICAN PEOPLE’S PARTY AND THE CONSTRUCTION OF COMMUNITY CENTER DURING WORLD WAR II

Abstract

On 12 May 1924, when Antalya Countrywide Resistance Organization turned intoPeople’s Party, a governance unit of this party was established in Serik. The RepublicanPeople’s Party’s Serik governance building was completed in 1935. So Serik became one of thefirst townships to build a party building. During World War II, the party built a conferencehall, two shops, a community center, and a public hall building. However, the constructionof Community Center and Public hall buildings could be completed after the war. Underthe law, which the Democratic Party enacted on August 8, 1951, the goods of the RepublicanPeople’s Party, Community Center and the Public hall were transferred to the treasury.This study focuses on the works of the Serik governance in the light of the files ofthe Prime Ministry Republican Archive which contain information on the activities of theRepublican People’s Party and the community centers.
