Abstract

Khutbah, one of the basics of Friday prayers, is not only a religious text, but also atool that aims to inform and illuminate society in many ways. In the first years of Republic,this feature of Khutbah was frequently used too. For this, firstly, the khutbahs read in Arabiclanguage in the Ottoman period, were made to be understood by translating into Turkish.Besides, making Turkish, the centralized khutbahs, were controlled by the state. The statereached the citizens in political, social, economic and military areas through the khutbahs. Inthis way, khutbahs became a very important shareholder and tool in informing, leading andshaping the society in a desired direction.
