(Determining the Cognitive Structures of Hotel Managers Relating to the Concept of Recreation by Word Association Test)

Abstract

This research was carried out to determine the cognitive structures of hotel managers regarding the concept of recreation. Qualitative research method was used in the research. In this context, 43 general managers of four and five-star hotels in Manavgat /Side were interviewed and the Word Association Test (KIT) was applied to determine the cognitive structures for the concept of recreation. The study data were analyzed using the MAXQDA package program, and a word cloud and concept map regarding the responses of the managers were created. As a result of the study, it was seen that the managers mostly associate recreation with the words time, activity, physical, animation, sports, entertainment, camping, rest, peace and travel. In addition, it was determinedthat the majority of the managers formed sentences containing scientific information at a superficial level regarding the concept of recreation.

Özet

Bu araştırma otel yöneticilerin rekreasyon kavramına yönelik bilişsel yapılarının belirlenmesi amacıyla yürütülmüştür. Araştırmada nitel araştırma yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Bu kapsamda, Manavgat/Side destinasyonunda dört ve beş yıldızlı toplamda 43 otel genel müdürü ile görüşülmüş ve rekreasyon kavramına yönelik bilişsel yapılarının tespit edilmesi amacıyla Kelime İlişkilendirme Testi (KİT) uygulanmıştır. Çalışma verileri MAXQDA paket programı aracılığı ile analiz edilmiş, yöneticilerin vermiş oldukları yanıtlara ilişkin kelime bulutu ve kavram haritası oluşturulmuştur. Çalışma sonucunda yöneticilerin rekreasyonu en fazla zaman, aktivite, fiziksel, animasyon, spor, eğlence, kamp, dinlenme, huzur ve gezi kelimeleri ile ilişkilendirdikleri görülmüştür. Ayrıca yöneticilerin büyük çoğunluğunun rekreasyon kavramına yönelik yüzeysel düzeyde bilimsel bilgi içeren cümleler oluşturdukları tespit edilmiştir.
