“From A Corridor City into A Zone City” Yalova: A Research on the Social Impact of İzmit Bay Crossing Project

Abstract

Examining the social impact of İzmit Bay Crossing Project in Yalova, this article is a study based on the relation between urbanisation, industrialisation, spatialisation and social change. İzmit Bay Crossing Project will make possible significant changes in the urban fabric inevitable. The evaluation of the project in terms of human, culture and space relations constitutes the areas of investigation in the study. Knowing how the projects concerning the city are perceived by the city dwellers is important for the urban government and their possible policies. Within this framework, the study analyses how the project is perceived and evaluated through discourse analysis in terms of different social parameters such as urbanisation, identity, belonging, migration, awareness, environment, production relations, regional development

Özet

Yalova kenti özelinde Körfez Geçiş Projesinin sosyal etkilerini ele alan bu makale kentleşme, sanayileşme, mekânsallaşma ve toplumsal değişme ilişkisi üzerine kurgulanmış bir çalışmaya karşılık gelmektedir. Kent dokusunda muhtemel önemli değişimleri kaçınılmaz kılacak olan Körfez Geçiş Projesinin insan, kültür ve mekan ilişkileri bağlamında değerlendirilmesi çalışmanın sorgu alanlarını oluşturmaktadır. Zira kente ilişkin projelenin kent yaşayanları tarafından nasıl algılandığının bilinmesi kent yönetimi ve olası politikaları bağlamında kıymetlidir. Bu çerçevede projenin nasıl algılandığı ve değerlendirildiği kentleşme, kimlik, aidiyet, göç, farkındalık, çevre, üretim ilişkileri, bölgesel kalkınma gibi farklı sosyal parametreler üzerinden irdelenip söylem analizi tekniğiyle analiz edilmektedir
