THE IMPACT OF TINNITUS IN PATIENTS WITH NORMAL HEARING

Abstract

Objective: The aim of the study is to determine how and to what extent tinnitus impact the life of the individual in adult subjective tinnitus patients without hearing loss. Materials and Methods: "Tinnitus Handicap Inventory" and "Tinnitus Severity Index " were applied to 100 subjective tinnitus patients with normal hearing according to the pure tone average. The results obtained were compared according to gender. Results: Although the degree of tinnitus was found in both groups at a moderate level, it was found that the total score of female participants was statistically significantly higher. The total score, functional and emotional subgroup scores of the tinnitus handicap inventory were obtained higher in female compared to male. A positive relationship was found between the degree of tinnitus and the disability it caused. Conclusion: As the degree of tinnitus increases, its negative effect on quality of life increases. According to study data, the disability caused by tinnitus affects female more than male.

Amaç: Çalışmanın amacı işitme kaybı olmayan yetişkin subjektif tinnituslu hastalarda, tinnitusun bireyin yaşamını nasıl ve ne derecede etkilediğini belirlemektir. Gereç ve Yöntem: Saf ses işitme eşik ortalamasına göre normal işitmeye sahip subjektif tinnituslu 100 bireye "Tinnitus Handikap Envanteri" ve "Tinnitus Şiddet İndeksi" uygulandı. Elde edilen sonuçlar cinsiyete göre karşılaştırıldı. Bulgular: Tinnitus derecesi her iki grupta orta düzeyde bulunmasına karşın kadın katılımcıların toplam puanının istatistiksel olarak anlamlı derecede yüksek olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Tinnitus engellilik anketinin toplam puan ve fonksiyonel, emosyonel alt ölçek puanlarıerkeklere göre kadınlarda daha yüksek elde edilmiştir. Tinnitusun derecesi ile oluşturduğu engellilik durumu arasında pozitif yönde bir ilişki tespit edilmiştir. Sonuç: Tinnitusun derecesi arttıkça yaşam kalitesi üzerine oluşturduğu olumsuz etkide artmaktadır. Çalışma verilerine göre tinnitusun oluşturduğu engellilik durumu erkeklere kıyasla kadınları daha çok etkilemektedir.
