Abstract
This article discusses the relationship between the media, technology, and capital, and reviews the position of local media in Turkey by using the critical economy-political approach. The relationship between technology and ownership, human resources in the local media, the circulation and distribution of the local media products are used as key variables in the study. Descriptions about the structure and organization of the local press, generally known as the Anatolian press, which has a history going back to the second half of the nineteenth century, and the local radio and television stations that entered the media arena in the 1990s are made from the information available from the three responsible governmental institutions, the General Directorate of the Press, Broadcasting and Information; the General Directorate of the Press and Advertising; and the High Council of Radio and Television for the local media in Turkey.
