Türkiye'de Eylem Sayısı ve Biçimbirimsel Özelliklerine Göre Eylem Sınıfları

Abstract

This study presents the first complete verb database of Modern Turkish. An exhaustive investigation of the TDK Dictionary (1998) has shown that there are about 4600 (4577) verbs in Turkish. Of these verbs, only 194 are simplex. The remaining 4383 complex verbs have been categorized and presented in two appendices. In Appendix I the monosyllabic verbs of Turkish are given. Appendix IIA sorts out the complex verbs öf Turkish with respect to their morphological properties and groups the derivational morpheme bearing verbs under 34 separate categories. The distribution of the verbs which bear a derivational affix reveals that the top five most productive verb deriving affixes in Modern Turkish are -LA (972 verbs), -lAş (617 verbs), -lAn (373 verbs), -DA (84 verbs) and -In {61 verbs). Appendix IIB comprises the verbs which are derived from adjectives and nouns. Compound verbs of Turkish are also listed in Appendix IIB. Finally Appendix IIC contains a thorough analysis of verbs which surface with reflexive, reciprocal and causative morphemes.
