Abstract
This paper discusses the issue of doing a research in Translation Studies. For this purpose, it identifies the position of it among other disciplines and from the point of "social systems theory" in the first part. Within this framework, it focuses on the problems of doing a research in an interdisciplinary field. In the second part, it submits a research model, the corpus of which is composed of postgraduate dissertations by random choice from the department of Translation Studies, Istanbul University. Since it aims to set a precedent for postgraduate studies, the model first aims to address to postgraduate students. It consists of three stages which serve for different ends. The first stage yields the bibliographical records; the second stage is on the content analysis of the dissertations; the last stage is related with the evaluation of data to reach a conclusion on the efficiency of the dissertations. Accordingly, the paper fulfills three functions: the first stage act as launching the archive of the department; the next stage act as illuminating the research techniques and researcher's awareness in deploying them; the last stage lay sound grounds for disclosing and discussing the features of efficient dissertations.
