Abstract

Ayfer Tunç is one of our prominent short story writers. In her stories characters who are lonely, restless, upset and hurt take place. These people are helpless and in need of love. They mostly live in big cities and are men. In the short story entitled Ses Tutsağı (Slave of Sounds) the situation is the same. The protogonist of the short story continues to live his life listening to the sounds of his upstairs neighbour. The story, full of tension ends with a surprise final and is a story of atmosphere. It is based on dream, illusion, lie and reality. In the story that sorrow dominates, there is an impressive style and a succesful language use. In the translation of the short story this atmosphere, style and language use is reflected on the target reader as it is reflected on the source reader.
