What is the cause of death of Yavuz Sultan Selim?

Abstract

Yavuz Sultan Selim is one of the Sultans of the Ottoman Empire. During the Yavuz period, the Ottoman lands expanded and trade routes to the east were controlled. The Ottoman State received the caliphate. Among the important victories of Yavuz Sultan Selim are Çaldıran, Mercidabik and Ridaniye wars. During his last voyage, he passed away. The authors have generally suggested carbuncle or cancer as the cause of death of Yavuz. This study was carried out with the cooperation of the historian and the physician. In conclusion, the authors suggested that Yavuz Sultan Selim died of sepsis caused by carbuncle

Özet

Osmanlı Devleti padişahı Yavuz Sultan Selim döneminde Osmanlı toprakları genişlemiş, doğuya olan ticaret yolları kontrol altına alınmış, halifelik Osmanlılara geçmiştir. Önemli zaferleri arasında Çaldıran, Mercidabık ve Ridaniye savaşları sayılabilir. Yavuz nereye olduğu bilinmeyen son seferi sırasında hastalanarak vefat etmiştir. Yazarlar ölüm nedeni olarak genellikle çıban veya kanseri ileri sürmüşlerdir. Bu araştırmada tarih ve tıp bilimcileri birlikte konuyu ele almışlardır. Yapılan değerlendirme sonucunda Yavuz Sultan Selim'in büyük bir olasılıkla karbonkülün yol açtığı sepsis nedeniyle öldüğü ileri sürülmüştür
