Content Analysis: Critical Thinking

Abstract

The term of critical thinking is discussed and interpreted in the past going back to the time of Socrates. There have been differences of opinion on the term because it means different things to researchers and to the ones who think on the subject.The framework of definitions on critical thinking is wide , the quantity of it is quite a lot and the term still keeps on changing and evolving.As a result, it is seen that there is not an agreement on the term.The purpose of this study is to form a critical thinking framework theoretically and to determine the basic factors that constitute the term by analyzing different definitions of critical thinking, appointed inclinations, strategies, aspects; the characteristics that a critical thinker needs to have.In the anaylizing of the data that has been obtained by document review, which is a qualitative research method, content analysis is made use of; a theoretical framework *) “Ortaokul Öğrencilerine Yönelik Eleştirel Temel Dil Becerileri Ölçeklerinin Geliştirilmesi” adlı is come up with by expanding the themes, which are formed based on the definitions, through examining other components of critical thinking

Özet

Eleştirel düşünme kavramı Sokrates'e kadar uzanan bir geçmişte tartışılmış, değerlendirilmiştir. Araştırmacılar ve konu hakkında düşünenler için farklı anlamlar ifade ettiğinden kavram üzerinde fikir ayrılıkları mevcuttur. Eleştirel düşünme hakkında yapılan tanımların çerçevesi geniş, niceliği oldukça çoktur ve kavram hâlâ değişmeye ve gelişmeye devam etmektedir. Sonuç olarak kavramla ilgili bir anlaşmanın olmadığı görülmektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, çeşitli eleştirel düşünme tanımlarını, belirlenmiş eğilimleri, stratejileri, boyutları; eleştirel düşünürün sahip olması gereken özellikleri analiz ederek kavramı oluşturan temel unsurları belirlemek kuramsal anlamda bir eleştirel düşünme çerçevesi oluşturmaktır. Nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden doküman incelemesi yoluyla toplanan verilerin analizinde içerik analizi kullanılmış, tanımlardan yola çıkılarak oluşturulan temalar eleştirel düşünmeyle ilgili diğer bileşenlerin incelemesiyle genişletilerek bir kuramsal çerçeveye ulaşılmıştır
