The Concept of Jihad According to Islam

Abstract

The topic of this study is the concept of jihad according to Islam. It has been determined based on scholarly work that the jihad concept in the Qur'an is not the same as war as has been the alleged. For Muslims, the biggest jihad is against the excessive/uncontrolled desires of the carnal soul. The existence of spiritual jihad is presented based on the Qur'an, hadith, and arguments of Muslim scholars. This study begins with an Introduction to frame the main debates and explains the types of jihad, proves the presence of both materialistic and spiritual jihad with Qur'anic verses and hadith literature.

Özet

Bu çalışmanın konusu, İslâm'da cihad anlayışıdır. Kur'ân-ı Kerîm'de yer alan cihad kavramı ile kıtal kavramının aynı olduğu yönündeki iddiaların doğru olmadığı ilmî kurallar çerçevesinde tespit edilmiştir. Müslümanlar için en büyük cihadın nefse karşı verilen ilim ve düşünce plânındaki mânevî cihad olduğu gerçeği ayet, hadis ve İslâm âlimlerinin görüşleri muvacehesinde ortaya konulmuştur. Çalışmamız, konunun ana hatlarını belirleyen bir giriş ile başlayıp, cihadın çeşitlerini, maddî ve mânevî cihadın varlığına işaret eden ayet ve hadislerle delillendirilmiştir.
