Abstract
The short infinitive in -mA, which is rarely found with possessive suffixes in Middle Ottoman, is indeed used in Late Ottoman, but never with the 1st person singular possessive suffix. E.g. Aḥmed Midḥat Efendi always uses the infinitive in -mAklIğIm instead, and the infinitive in -mAklIK is also found as the almost exclusive form in 1st person plural, too. In historical texts from the late 18th and the 19th century, there is a less clear tendency towards the same picture. The reason for the special treatment of the 1st person singular (which must have spread to the 1st person plural by analogy) could be a desire to avoid confusion with the homonymous 1st person form of the negative aorist. In a certain period there must also have been a stylistic difference between colloquial and more formal language in the use of the infinitive suffixes.
Özet
Orta Osmanlıca metinlerinde iyelik eklerini nadiren alan mA isim-fiili, 18.
