Place Attachment and Participation in a Revitalizing Areas

Abstract

Place attachment is emotional bonds that people form to a place (physical and social) where they live. The main purpose of this study is primarily to determine the levels of place attachment that the residents of Sille Neighborhood in Selçuklu District in Konya where revitalizing activities has been performed and then to determine the relationship between levels of place attachment, participation of residents to revitalizing activities and socio-demographic variables. In this context, a case study is conducted with 76 residents of Sille Neighborhood. While the study shows that there is no significant correlation between place attachment and the participation of residents to revitalizing efforts in Sille Neighborhood, it finds a significant correlation between place attachment and the length of residence of the residents that is one of the socio-demographic variables.

Özet

Yer bağlılığı, kişilerin yaşadıkları yere (fiziksel ve sosyal) olan duygusal bağlarıdır. Bu çalışmanın temel amacı, öncelikle yeniden canlandırma faaliyetlerinin gerçekleştirildiği Konya ili, Selçuklu ilçesine bağlı Sille Mahallesi’nde vatandaşların yer bağlılık düzeylerini belirlemek daha sonra ise yer bağlılığı düzeyi ile vatandaşların yeniden canlandırma faaliyetlerine katılımı ve sosyo-demografik değişkenler arasındaki ilişkiyi tespit etmektir. Bu kapsamda Sille Mahallesi’nde 76 mahalle sakininin katıldığı bir araştırma gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda yer bağlılığı ile mahalle sakinlerinin yeniden canlandırma faaliyetlerine katılımı arasında anlamlı bir ilişki bulunamamıştır. Buna karşın yer bağlılığı ile sosyo-demografik değişkenlerden mahallede ikamet süresi arasında anlamlı bir ilişki tespit edilmiştir.
