A Research on the Place of Ecological Tourism in Sustainable Environmental Management and the Works of Municipalities in this Field

Sürdürülebilir Çevre Yönetiminde Ekolojik Turizmin Yeri ve Belediyelerin Bu Alandaki Çalışmaları Üzerine Bir Araştırma

Abstract

The aim of this study is; to draw attention to the importance of the concept of ecological tourism, which has become more popular in recent years in sustainable environmental management and to identify interest of municipalities in Turkey in this area. Activity reports and strategic plans of the provincial municipalities of the Aegean Region were examined by using documentary screening method and the relevant levels of these municipalities regarding ecological tourism were determined. In the research conducted, it is seen that the municipalities that make up the sample have studies on sustainability, development of the environment and development of tourism; but it was observed that they did not gave a high level of importance to ecological tourism. Therefore, it is recommended that municipalities should be more active in developing ecological tourism.

Özet

Bu çalışma ile amaçlanan; son yıllarda önemi artan ekolojik turizm kavramının sürdürülebilir çevre yönetimi içerisindeki önemine dikkat çekmek ve Türkiye’de belediyelerin bu alana olan ilgilerini tespit etmektir. Belgesel tarama yöntemi kullanılarak Ege Bölgesi il belediyelerinin faaliyet raporları ve stratejik planları incelenmiş, söz konusu belediyelerin ekolojik turizm konusuna olan ilgili düzeyleri tespit edilmiştir. Yapılan araştırmada örneklemi oluşturan belediyelerin sürdürülebilirlik, çevrenin geliştirilmesi ve turizmin geliştirilmesi konularında çalışmaları olduğu görülürken; ekolojik turizm konusuna ise henüz üst seviyede önem vermedikleri görülmüştür. Dolayısıyla belediyelerin sahip oldukları yetki ve sorumluluk çerçevesinde ekolojik turizm konusunda daha faal olmaları önerilmektedir.
