Public Perception of Municipalities’ Environmental Policy: The Case of Karabük

Abstract

Abstract: In this study, a field study was conducted in order to determine the perception of the public towards the environmental policies carried out by the Karabük municipality. As a result of the study; the municipality’s services on listening to public complaints about the environment and trying to find solutions (=3,50), raising awareness of the public against environmental problems (=3,62), the number of existing park and green areas $\left(\overline\times=3,60\right)$, services on parks and green areas (protection, maintenance and renovation) $\left(\overline\times=3,42\right)$, services about cleaning of the streets (washing and sweeping) $\left(\overline\times=3,71\right)$, the works on recyclable wastes (batteries, glass, etc.) (=3,49) and the number of recyclable waste cages $\left(\overline\times=3,57\right)$ appeared to be sufficient.

Özet

Bu çalışmada Karabük ilinde belediyenin yürüttüğü çevre politikalarına yönelik halkın algısını belirlemek amacıyla bir alan çalışması gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışma sonucunda; Karabük belediyesinin, halkın çevreyle ilgili şikâyetlerini dinlediği ve çözüm bulmaya çalıştığı $\left(\overline\times=3,50\right)$, çevre sorunlarına karşı halkı bilinçlendirmeye yönelik hizmetlerinin $\left(\overline\times=3,62\right)$, mevcut park ve yeşil alan sayısının $\left(\overline\times=3,60\right)$, park ve yeşil alanlarla ilgili hizmetlerinin (koruma, bakım ve yenileme) $\left(\overline\times=3,42\right)$, cadde ve sokakların temizliği ile ilgili hizmetlerinin (yıkama ve süpürme) $\left(\overline\times=3,71\right)$, geri dönüştürülebilir atıklar (pil, cam vb.) ile ilgili çalışmaların $\left(\overline\times=3,49\right)$, geri dönüşüm atık kafeslerinin sayısının $\left(\overline\times=3,57\right)$ yeterli olduğu ortaya çıkmıştır.
