Deep Ecology in the Context of New-Paradigm Debates

Abstract

Deep Ecology is a nature-action and a philosophical thought, radically denying the supremacy of human-being over the nature and re-evaluating of human’s relation with the nature. Even though being in the environmentalist approaches, deep ecology is very different and separated from these environmentalist groups within the approach. In this study, it is tried to explain the difference of deep ecology from both environmentalist and general ecological thought through philosophy of science reading. The study is intended to debate the relationship between deep ecology and the transition from the positivist paradigm depending upon the cartesian-science consciousness to the new-science consciousness relying on quantum theory through the concept of “paradigm”.

Özet

İnsanın doğaya üstünlüğünü radikal bir biçimde reddeden ve insanın içinde yaşadığı doğayla ilişkisini yeniden değerlendiren derin ekoloji, çevreci yaklaşımlar içinde yer alan bir doğa hareketi ve felsefi düşüncedir. Her ne kadar çevreci yaklaşımlar içinde yer alsa da, buradaki çevreci gruplardan oldukça farklıdır ve onlardan ayrıktır. Bu çalışmada, derin ekolojinin hem çevreci hem de genel ekolojik düşünceden farklılığı bilim felsefesi üzerinden bir okuma ile açıklanmaya çalışılmıştır. Çalışma, kartezyenci-bilim anlayışına dayalı pozitivist paradigmadan, kuantum teorisine dayalı yeni-bilim anlayışına geçiş ile derin ekoloji arasındaki bağlantıları “paradigma” kavramı üzerinden tartışmayı amaçlamaktadır.
