LATE ONSET FATAL PARAQUAT INTOXICATION

Abstract

Paraquat is a herbicide that can cause fatal intoxication by any known contact. While the agent causes ulcers in the gastroin-testinal tract and oral mucosa with its direct corrosive effect, determining the mortality is lung failure and hepatorenal damage by free radicals. It was aimed to discuss the case of paraquat intoxication in the light of the literature because its symptoms were atypically late onset and aggressively developed multiorgan failure.

Paraquat, bilinen her türlü temas yolu ile ölümcül intoksikasyon vakalarına neden olabilen herbisid bir ajandır. Direk koroziv etkisi ile oral mukoza ve gastrointestinal sistemde ülserasyonlara neden olurken, serbest radikaller aracılığı ile ölümcül seyredebilen akciğer Şbrozisi ve hepatorenal yetmezlik geliştirebilmektedir. Semptomlarının atipik olarak geç başlangıçlı olması (5. gün) ve agresif seyrederek multiorgan yetmezliği gelişmesi nedeniyle, paraquat intoksikasyonu olan olgumuzun literatür eşliğinde tartışılması amaçlandı.
