The Location and Importance of Tourism Sector in Economy: An Evaluation in the Context of Sivas

Abstract
In this study, the place and importance of the tourism sector within the economy were evaluated in Sivas province. In this context, the tourism potential of the province of Sivas and its place and importance in Turkish tourism were analysed using secondary data. According to the findings obtained, Sivas province, whose history dates back to 4500 BC, is an important tourist region with its natural beauties and geographical properties that have become a trend in the world such as health and thermal tourism, mountain and winter tourism and culture tourism. However, although Sivas is one of the cities convenient for tourism in Turkey, it is not in the place it should be in this sector. As a matter of fact, according to 2016 data, the number of facilities, rooms and beds with tourism investment certificate and operation certificate corresponds to 0.03% of the number of facilities in the country and this ratio is below the national average. Also in 2016 as the number of foreign visitors in Turkey ranks 24. The number of foreign visitors coming to Sivas same year 1135, the number of foreign visitors to the country as 0.04% which corresponds to a very low rate.
Özet
Bu çalışmada ekonomi içindeki turizm sektörünün yeri ve önemi Sivas ili özelinde değerlendirilmeye çalışılmıştır. Bu bağlamda Sivas ilinin turizm potansiyeli ve Türkiye turizmi içerisindeki yeri ve önemi ikincil veriler kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Elde edilen bulgulara göre, tarihi M.Ö 4500 yılına kadar uzanan Sivas ili doğal güzellikleri ve coğrafi özellikleriyle beraber, termal ve sağlık turizmi, , kültür turizmi, dağ ve kış turizmi gibi dünya genelinde trend haline gelmiş birçok turizm çeşitliliğini içeren önemli bir turizm bölgesi konumundadır. Fakat Sivas ili Türkiye’nin turizme elverişli illerinden biri olmasına rağmen, bu sektörde olması gereken yerde bulunmamaktadır. Nitekim 2016 verilerine göre turizm işletme belgeli ve yatırım belgeli yatak, oda ve tesis sayıları ülkedeki tesis sayısının %0.03’ne karşılık gelmekte ve bu oran ülke ortalamasının altında bulunmaktadır. Ayrıca 2016 yılında yabancı ziyaretçi sayısı itibariyle Türkiye’de 24. sırada yer alan Sivas’a aynı yıl gelen yabancı ziyaretçi sayısı 1135 olup, ülkeye gelen yabancı ziyaretçi sayısının ancak %0.04’ne karşılık gelmektedir.
