Abstract
The aim of this paper is to provide the mainlines for the history of the Turkish literature as well as the reasons for the absence of a history of the Turkish literature that is able to answer to all needs. Consented by all authors interested in the history of literature, these reasons also point to how and under what circumstances a comprehensive history of the Turkish Republic can be constructed.

Bu yazıda Türk edebiyatı tarihi çalışmalarının tarihi ve bugüne kadar bütün ihtiyaçlara cevap verebilecek dört başı mamur bir Türk edebiyatı tarihi yazılamayışının sebepleri ana hatlarıyla takip edilmeye çalışılmıştır. Edebiyat tarihiyle ilgilenen bütün yazarların ittifakla üzerinde birleştiği bu sebepler, kapsamlı bir Türk edebiyatı tarihinin nasıl ve hangi şartlarda kaleme alınabileceğine de işaret etmektedir.
