A Research On Graduate Thesıs On Data Mining In Turkey

Abstract
In recent years, individuals and organizations are trying to solve varied problems which have different structures and purposes by using data mining tools and techniques. For this reason, data mining is a subject that attracts researchers' attention in the academic field. Scientific and technological innovations can be observed in post graduate theses. Therefore, the contents of the thesis are important in this regard. The aim of this research is to examine the graduate and doctoral dissertations which can be reached with the keyword; "data mining" that made at the universities in Turkey from different angles. In the study, 116 post graduate theses were identified with the query of data mining in the field of social sciences. 22 of these theses were not included in the research. Type of the theses (masters / doctorate), languages, universities and branches where the theses were made, implementation areas are examined for 94 theses that reviewable. Besides, if there is an application in theses than it is examined which data mining algorithms and software were used to conduct the application. In addition to this, the theses have been studied in terms of the changes in the field and application areas according to the years.
Özet
Son yıllarda, veri madenciliği araç ve teknikleri; bireylerin ve organizasyonların farklı yapıdaki ve farklı amaçlarla çözümlemeye çalıştıkları problemlerine yanıt vermektedir. Bu nedenle akademik sahada da veri madenciliği, araştırmacıların ilgisini çeken bir alandır. Bilimsel ve teknolojik yenilikleri lisansüstü tezlerde gözlemlemek mümkündür. Lisansüstü tezlerin içerikleri bu açıdan önemlidir. Bu araştırmanın amacı Türkiye’deki üniversitelerde erişim olanağı bulunan ve “veri madenciliği” sorgusu ile ulaşılabilen yüksek lisans ve doktora tezlerini farklı açılardan incelemektir. Çalışmada, sosyal bilimler alanında veri madenciliği sorgusu ile 116 lisansüstü tez olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Bu tezlerden 22 tanesi analizlere dâhil edilememiştir. Ulaşılabilen 94 adet tezin tipi (yüksek lisans/doktora), yazım dillerinin ne olduğu, hazırlandıkları üniversiteler ve anabilim dalları, uygulandıkları alanlar, incelemeye tabi tutulmuştur. Ayrıca tezlerde bir uygulama söz konusu ise bu uygulamanın hangi veri madenciliği algoritmaları ve yazılımları ile yapıldığı gibi kriterler incelenmiştir. Bunlara ek olarak tezlerin anabilim dalı ve uygulama alanlarında yıllara göre değişimler de irdelenmiştir.
