Assesment of hemorrhoids in patients presenting with coccydynia complaints

Abstract

Objective: Coccydynia refers to pain originating from the coccyx, or tailbone. It is aimed to investigate the coexistence of coccydynia with hemorrhoid which is similar afflictions in the same region. Material and Method: Thirty-seven patients who had hemorrhoids at the end of the physical examination evaluations of eighty-seven coccydynia patients were included in this study. Patients with hemorrhoids were divided into two groups: those with external hemorrhoids (Group 1) and those with internal hemorrhoids (Group 2). The demographic characteristics were recorded and pain assessment of the cases were compared with the numerical rating scale (NRS) during the sitting and standing periods. p 0.05). In Group 1, NRS (during standing) (5.83±3.51) was significantly higher than Group 2 (2.28±1.59) (p<0.05). Conclusions: In this study; it has been emphasized that hemorrhoids may be accompanied by coccydynia and external hemorrhoids should be kept in mind in patients with severe pain.

Özet

Amaç: Koksidini, koksiks etrafındaki ağrıyı tanımlar. Bu çalışmada benzer yakınımlarla karakterize hemoroidin koksidini birlikteliğinin incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Seksen yedi koksidinili hastanın fizik muayene değerlendirmeleri sonrasında hemoroid saptanan 37 hasta çalışmaya dahil edildi. Hemoroid tespit edilen hastalar eksternal hemoroid olanlar (Grup 1) ve internal hemoroid olanlar (Grup 2) şeklinde iki gruba ayrıldı. Sonuç: Bu çalışmada; koksidinili hastalarda hemoroidin de eşlik edebileceği, ağrı şiddeti fazla olan hastalarda eksternal hemoroidin de akılda tutulması gerektiğine dikkat çekilmiştir.
