Abstract

Myths occur in Vilâjet-Nâme in any cultural sphere and embrace all aspects of life. Thus, Hacı Bektaş Veli emerges without contradiction and at the same time among the living as a living being, among human being as a historical personality and under the condition of transcendence as the chosen saint. Therefore the first question is which structural, functional and communicative role myths play in Vilâjet-Nâme. Then the question is asked under what conditions myths can play a constitutive role in modern societies. Contrary to the theory of action by Max Weber Emile Durkheim assumes that myths also in modern times can play a mediating role between the individuals and society as part of the socialization. This function is shown on a theoretical level with the action theory by Jürgen Habermas and on a sociological level by the example of Nesimi´s teaching. In the religiousness of the Derwish tradition myths and legends as well as formal mental operations were mutually integrated and were used for identity shaping. A discourse-theoretically interpreted dervish ethics corresponds with the conditions of a modern ethics of responsibility. Therefore, the contribution supports the hypothesis that modern societies, their institutions and individuals can let their lives be guided by Derwish-Ethics
