Abstract

The present study investigates the case of reading the Turkish Translations of the Qur’an rather than reading it in the Original Arabic at Cems by some of the groups which are described as Alawite today. The subject was studied by focusing on works on Adabs and Erkans (Alewi manners and ceremonies/etiquettes), “cem”s with “deyish”s and “nefes”es, and traditional custom such as janazas, tomb visitings, etc. Traditionally, it is known that the Qur’an has been read in Arabic in each kind of these customs. It is understood that the recent practice of “Reading the Turkish Translation of the Qur’an at Cems” and making it almost obligatory by some groups is not matching with the traditional practices
