Determination of irrigation water qualities of Bilecik-Osmaneli district

Abstract

This research was realized to determine the quality of well waters used for irrigation purposes in crop production under greenhouses of Osmaneli district of Bilecik province. For this purpose, water samples were taken from 46 wells in the region. Analyses of irrigation waters including pH, EC, Ca+2, Mg+2, K+, Na+, CO3-2, HCO3-, Cl-, SO4-2, and B were done. From the analyses results SAR, Na % and RSC values were calculated and the quality classes were determined and evaluated. The results showed that 41.30 and 47.82 % of the investigated water samples had moderate and high salinity, respectively. In term of SAR value, all samples were considered as first class irrigation waters. Chloride contents of water samples, was not high to show toxic effect to the growing plants. It was determined that most of the irrigation waters can be used in production under greenhouses without yield loss
