From the Spanish Invasion to the Ottoman Conquest: Turkish Resistance in Tripoli in the First Half of the 16th Century

Abstract
Currently named Libya, Tripoli remained under the Turkish reign for approximately four centuries as one of the North African provinces of the Ottoman State. However, this reign of four centuries has not received sufficient interest in the academic sense so far and it has been mentioned only with general statements in our copyrighted works. It is accepted that there are big gaps and deficits in our history in this respect. As a result of the deficit in question, the conquest of Tripoli has been mentioned as a case that was concluded in a few months by sending a navy with general and summary information in our sources. Actually, there is a struggle of 20-30 years and the resistance against the invasion in the background. Consequently, it was aimed to show in the study the grounds on which the Turkish reign in Tripoli, which is among the provinces of the Ottoman State in North Africa and the last left one, escalated and the strength power of the Turks before the conquest in 1551. The works of Italian and French historians were mainly consulted to this end. Public archives, official-unofficial reports and travel books that accounted for that period were frequently referred to in these works. On the other hand, a crosscheck was made by comparing the information obtained from these works, our own history and the history of Libya.
Özet
Günümüzde Libya olarak isimlendirilen Trablusgarp, Osmanlı Devleti’nin Kuzey Afrika eyaletlerinden biri olarak yaklaşık dört asır Türk hâkimiyetinde kalmıştır. Fakat bu dört asırlık hâkimiyet, şimdiye kadar akademik anlamda yeteri kadar ilgi görmemiş ve telif edilen eserlerimizde genel ifadelerle geçiştirilmiştir. Bu açıdan tarihimizde büyük boşluklar, eksiklikler olduğu kabul edilmektedir. Mezkûr eksiklik dolayısıyla Trablusgarp fethi, kaynaklarımızda genel ve özet ifadelerle donanma gönderilip bir iki ay içerisinde neticelenen bir vakıa olarak aktarılmıştır. Aslında fethin arka planında 20-30 yıllık bir mücadele ve işgale karşı direniş bulunmaktadır. Binaenaleyh çalışmada, Osmanlı Devleti’nin Kuzey Afrika’daki eyaletlerinden ve en son terk ettiği toprak parçası olan Trablusgarp’taki Türk hâkimiyetinin hangi zeminde yükseldiği ve 1551 fethi öncesinde Türklerin mukavemet gücü gösterilmek istenmiştir. Bunun için daha çok İtalyan ve Fransız tarihçilerin eserlerine müracaat edilmiştir. Bu eserlerde, Avrupa devlet arşivlerine, resmî-gayrı resmî raporlara ve dönemi anlatan seyahatnamelere sıkça başvurulmuştur. Diğer taraftan bunlardan temin edilen bilgiler, kendi tarihlerimizle ve Libya tarihleriyle karşılaştırılarak sağlama yapılmıştır.
