EFFICACY OF ACTIVITY BASED STUDIES ON IMPROVING THE LISTENING SKILLS OF SEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS

Abstract
What was examined in this experimental study which was done with 7th grade students was the efficacy of a model listening education composed of activities. In the scope of the study, a ten item listening test was prepared. The headings in the test were determined considering the listening situations which students might encounter both at school and in life outside the school. There were 45 students in the test group, and 32 students were in the control group. The students in the test group were provided a two-hour applied training course for 4 weeks. After the training, a clear improvement was observed in the listening skills of the students in the test group. The difference which was in favor of the test group proved to be statistically meaningful as well. The result of the study shows that training on listening skills improves listening competency of 7th grade students.
Özet
İlköğretim 7. sınıf öğrencileri üzerinde yapılan bu deneysel çalışmada, etkinliklerden oluşan bir dinleme eğitimi modelinin etkililiği araştırılmıştır. Araştırma kapsamında, 10 maddeden oluşan bir Dinleme Testi hazırlanmıştır. Dinleme Testi’ndeki başlıklar, öğrencilerin hem okulda hem de okul dışındaki hayatta karşılarına çıkabilecek dinleme durumlarından hareketle belirlenmiştir.Araştırmada deney grubunda 45, kontrol grubunda ise 32 öğrenci yer almaktadır. Deney grubundaki öğrencilere 4 hafta boyunca uygulamalı eğitim verilmiştir. Verilen eğitim sonunda, deney grubunda yer alan öğrencilerin dinleme becerilerinde belirgin derecede bir gelişmenin olduğu gözlenmiştir. Deney grubu lehine olan fark istatistiki olarak da anlamlı çıkmıştır. Araştırmada ortaya çıkan sonuç, etkinliklerden oluşan ve dinleme becerisini geliştirmek için verilen eğitimin 7. sınıf öğrencilerinin dinleme becerilerini geliştirdiğini göstermektedir.
