Abstract

The aim of this study was to adapt the Adult Recall Form of the Multidimensional Neglectful Behaviors Scale (MNBS) into Turkish in a sample of young adults. The study was conducted with 218 participants (174 women and 44 men) with a mean age of 23.8 years. The construct validity of the 20-item long form and the psychometrically revised 8-item short form was examined using first- and second-order Confirmatory Factor Analyses (CFA). Because the data deviated from normality, Robust Maximum Likelihood (MLR) estimation was employed. The findings indicated that both forms retained the original four-factor structure consisting of emotional, cognitive, supervisory, and physical neglect. First-order CFA results demonstrated acceptable model fit for both forms, whereas second-order CFA findings suggested that the higher-order factor structure, particularly for the short form, should be interpreted with caution. For criterion-related validity, MNBS scores were significantly and negatively correlated with scores on the Parental Bonding Instrument, consistent with theoretical expectations. The scale demonstrated strong internal consistency for the total score (Cronbach alfa (α) = .93; McDonald’s ω = .93), as well as adequate composite reliability (CR = .90) and average variance extracted (AVE = .71). Overall, the Turkish version of the MNBS is a valid and reliable instrument for assessing childhood neglectful behaviors among young adults.

Birinci düzey DFA sonuçları, her iki form için kabul edilebilir uyum değerleri sunarken, ikinci düzey DFA bulguları üst faktör yapısının, özellikle kısa form açısından temkinli yorumlanması gerektiğini ortaya koymuştur.
