Abstract
This study investigates the effect of different semiconductor optical amplifier supply current values on the performance of an ultrawideband system obtained with photonic circuits at S, C, and L fiber wavelengths. The maximum quality factor variation, bit error rate, and pulse shape were analyzed at semiconductor optical amplifier supply currents of 60, 150, and 180 mA for S, C, and L wavelengths. The highest quality factor and the lowest bit error rate were obtained in the L band at 180 mA. It was observed that the pulse shape changed into two different regimes depending on the semiconductor optical amplifier supply current. A triple pulse was obtained at 60 mA, while a double Gaussian pulse was generated at 150 and 180 mA. Frequency analysis demonstrated high compatibility with the Federal Communications Commission mask. The quality factor, bit error rate, time, and frequency analyses revealed relatively better performance in the L band. The findings reveal that better performance is mostly achieved in the L-band, and that the Semiconductor Optical Amplifier (SOA) supply current directly determines not only the system performance but also the Ultrawideband (UWB) pulse shape, demonstrating a unique contribution through triple Gaussian pulse generation.
