Abstract
The League of National Support of the Navy, which was changed its name to the Ottoman Navy League in 1913, was a voluntary popular association established in 19th July, 1909 to rally support for the strengthening of the Ottoman Navy. Although the League emerged as a civil initiative, especially after 1913 its semi-official character became more intense. For this aim the association carried out extensive popular campaigns. Shortly after its foundation, the provincial branches of the Navy League were formed and according to archival sources, the Women’s Branches of the Ottoman Navy League such as İstanbul, Kadıköy, Kastamonu, İşkodra and Diyarbekir were active
Özet
Donanma-yi Osmanî Muavenet-i Milliye Cemiyeti (DOMMC) daha sonra değişen adıyla Osmanlı Donanma Cemiyeti, 19 Temmuz 1909 tarihinde Osmanlı donanmasını güçlendirmek amacıyla kurulan popüler bir gönüllü dernekti. Kuruluşunda sivil bir girişim olmakla beraber, özellikle 1913 yılından sonra yarı resmi karakteri daha belirgin hale gelmişti. Amacını gerçekleştirmek için cemiyet geniş kapsamlı kampanyalar düzenlemişti. Kuruluşundan kısa bir süre sonra taşra örgütlenmesini oluşturan cemiyetin, İstanbul, Kadıköy, Kastamonu, İşkodra ve Diyarbekir Hanımlar Şubelerinin faaliyette olduğunu arşiv kaynaklarından öğrenmekteyiz
