The Perceptions and Expectations of the Industry Circuit for the University-Industry Cooperation in Samsun

SAMSUN’DA ÜNİVERSİTE-SANAYİ İŞBİRLİĞİNE YÖNELİK SANAYİ KESİMİNİN ALGILARI VE BEKLENTİLERİ

Abstract

The lack of the desired level of university-industry cooperation in Turkey, is one of the topics being studied for many years. Most of the work undertaken has addressed the expectations and perceptions of the universities, but the industrial sector's perceptions and expectations about university-industry cooperation have not been adequately addressed. In this context, the aim of the research is to establish a mutual and effective relationship / interaction between the industrial sector in Samsun and the university and to determine the university perception of the industrial sector and to make inferences about the expectations for the further development of the university-industry cooperation. The data of the study were collected and analyzed by 243 industrialists operating in the district of Tekkeköy in Samsun. According to the results obtained, it can be said that the industrial sector perceives the university as an institution which has relatively favorable qualities but is disconnected from the city and industrial sector. According to the participants, it can also be said that the relations between the university and the industrial sector are in need of improvement, and the expectations in this direction are that the university is taking an active role. On the other hand, while the industrial sector is making a self-criticism that they do not provide adequate support to the university, they also point out that they do not have enough knowledge about what kind of contributions university can offer them.

Özet

Türkiye’de üniversite-sanayi işbirliğinin istenilen düzeyde olmaması, uzun yıllardan beri çalışılan konuların başında gelmektedir. Yapılan çalışmaların çoğu üniversitelerin beklentilerini ve algılarını ele almış ancak sanayi kesiminin üniversite-sanayi işbirliğine yönelik algı ve beklentilerinin üzerinde yeterince durulmamıştır. Bu kapsamda araştırmanın amacı, Samsun’daki sanayi kesimi ile üniversite arasında karşılıklı ve etkin bir ilişki/etkileşim kurabilmesi ve üniversite-sanayi işbirliğinin daha da geliştirilebilmesi için sanayi kesiminin üniversite algısını belirlemek ve beklentileri hakkında çıkarımlar yapmaktır. Çalışmanın verileri, Samsun’un Tekkeköy ilçesinde faaliyette bulunan 243 sanayiciden toplanmış ve analiz edilmiştir. Elde edilen sonuçlara göre, sanayi kesiminin üniversiteyi görece olumlu niteliklere sahip olan, ama şehirden ve sanayi sektöründen kopuk bir kurum olarak algıladıkları söylenebilir. Yine katılımcılara göre üniversite ile sanayi sektörü arasındaki ilişkilerin geliştirilmeye muhtaç olduğu ve bu konudaki beklentilerinin ise üniversitenin aktif rol alması yönünde olduğu ifade edilebilir. Öte taraftan sanayi kesimi kendilerinin de üniversiteye yeterli destek sunmadıkları yönünde bir özeleştiri yaparken; üniversitenin kendilerine ne tür katkılar sunabileceği hususunda yeterli bilgiye sahip olmadıklarını da belirtmişlerdir.
