An Example of Meteorological Natural Disasters in Samsun: Lâdik Flood and Overflow on June 5, 2023

Samsun’da Meteorolojik Kökenli Doğal Afetlere Bir Örnek: 5 Haziran 2023 Tarihli Lâdik Seli ve Taşkınları

Abstract

Floods and overflow, like other natural disasters, are natural disasters of meteorological origin that cause loss of life and property and deeply affect the socio-economic structure of the society. On June 5, 2023, the rainfall in the Lâdik District of Samsun Province exceeded the long-term averages in the district center of Lâdik, and the streams that originated from the mountainous area in the southern part of the district center caused flood and overflow due to the impact of the slope. A total of 437.289 m2 of agricultural land, 23 residential buildings, 6 commercial establishments, 4 haystacks, 2 vehicles, 7 multi-purpose storages, and 4 barns in 16 neighborhoods in the district center were damaged, and 32 cattle died. The disaster claimed the life of one person. Damaged houses were evacuated. Since the disaster struck in June, the destruction in the agricultural sector was heavy, and maize, wheat, and sunflower fields were affected by the flood. The roads in the district center collapsed due to the flood, and traffic on the road from Lâdik to Samsun was suspended for a while. Besides natural factors such as slope, exposure, precipitation, soil, and vegetation, interventions made to the stream beds were also effective in the occurrence of the disaster.

Özet

Seller ve taşkınlar diğer doğal afetler gibi can ve mal kaybına yol açan, toplumun sosyo-ekonomik yapısını derinden etkileyen meteorolojik kökenli doğal afetlerdir. 5 Haziran 2023 tarihinde, Samsun ili Lâdik ilçesinde etkili olan yağışlar Lâdik ilçe merkezinde uzun yıllık ortalamaların üzerine çıkmış, ilçe merkezinin güneyindeki dağlık sahadan kaynağını alan dereler eğimin de etkisiyle sele ve taşkına neden olmuştur. İlçe merkezindeki 16 mahallede toplam 437.289 m2’lik tarım alanı, 23 konut, 6 ticari işyeri, 4 samanlık, 2 araç, 7 çok amaçlı depo ve 4 ahır zarar görmüş; 32 büyükbaş hayvan telef olmuştur. Afette 1 kişi hayatını kaybetmiştir. Zarar gören evler tahliye edilmiştir. Afet haziran ayında meydana geldiği için tarım sektöründeki zarar fazla olmuş; mısır, buğday ve ayçiçeği tarlaları selden etkilenmiştir. İlçe merkezindeki yollar selin etkisiyle bozulmuş, Lâdik-Samsun yolunda trafik bir müddet durmuştur. Afetin meydana gelmesinde eğim, bakı, yağış, toprak, bitki örtüsü gibi doğal faktörlerin yanında dere yataklarına yapılan beşeri müdahaleler de etkili olmuştur.
