Abstract
This research examines the expression "hand," which occurs frequently in the Qur'an, from the perspective of rhetoric and linguistics, by abstracting it from the traditional and doctrinal debates of theology and creed regarding Allah's attributes (anthropomorphism, corporealism, and allegorical interpretation). The primary objective and problem of the study is to remove this concept from the realm of mere theological polemics and to reveal its literary and aesthetic dimensions within the framework of the expressive power of the Arabic language, Pre-Islamic poetry, and its usages in the context of revelation. Adopting an analytical method that blends data from exegesis, lexicography, and rhetoric, the research accepts usages in classical Arabic poetry and oratory as the fundamental reference point for correctly understanding the metaphors and metonymies in the verses, emphasizing the determinative role of "context" (siyâq) in defining meaning. According to the findings reached in the research, the word "hand" in the Qur'an is not merely a physical organ but constitutes a dense semantic field corresponding to abstract concepts such as power, dominion, blessing, stinginess, and regret. In this context, it has been determined that actions attributed to humans—such as "withholding the hand" (peace), "stretching out the hand" (aggression), "closing the hand" (stinginess), or "biting the hand" (regret)—are metonymies depicting deep psychological states. Conversely, it was concluded that expressions attributed to Allah, such as "His two hands are outspread" or "Allah's hand is over their hands," express meanings of infinite generosity, grace, and support. Keywords: Arabic language, Qur’an, Rhetoric, Hand, Metaphor.
