Abstract

Turkish Mythology, which has developed in the steppe geography since the Paleolithic age in central and inner Asia, has been fed by the elements of ‘religion’ and ‘tradition’. The mythology of the Turks, which has been shaped by Totemist, Shaman and Sky God belief systems throughout the historical process, has also provided information about their daily life and culture by feeding on ceremonial and magic practices. Turkish Mythology, which deals with supernatural events, the animals they live with and their lives with a rational approach, has been formed in order to give advice and to convey their daily life from language to language. The fish element, which is one of the animals they live with and which is of sanctity, fertility, derivation and importance, has been the subject of this study from a mythological point of view. Although fish is an important element for Turkish Mythology, the three fish that carry the world in the Altay Creation Saga are a symbol of rebirth, fertility and peace in Turkish cosmology. In Turkish legends, which are shaped by the beliefs and traditions they interact with, the fish was transmitted as the Akana, which came out of deep waters and played a role in the creation of the world. In the study, the main lines of Turkish Mythology will be briefly mentioned and the subject is limited within the framework of the Fish element, which is one of the animals in Turkish Mythology. In this context, the subject studied within the scope of the Fish element in Turkish Mythology has been supported by exemplifying with legends, fairy tales and myths. In this study, the mythologies of the Turks that give us information within the framework of their belief, culture, life and understanding of the animals with which they share a common space were investigated and examined by the literature scanning method.
