An Ethical Theory in The Field of Information Philosophy: Flourishing Ethics

Abstract
Recent significant developments have occurred in the field of computational technologies with the information revolution. These developments have changed and transformed our lives in many aspects; especially our cultural, economic, and governance activities through individual and social dimensions. While this change and transformation brought about positive developments, it also brought with it some ethical problems. One of the areas affected by the information revolution is philosophy. The philosophy of information is a new philosophical approach that deals with the ontological, epistemological, and axiological aspects of the subjects, concepts, and phenomena developed under the influence of the information revolution. Information ethics, on the other hand, is a field of investigation that deals with the ethical problems created by the world of information and produces solutions within this philosophical field. The main purpose of this article is to investigate a new theory of information ethics that both uses traditional ethical approaches and proposes a change of perspective in terms of methodology in addressing the ethical problems of the information age. This theory is Prof. Terrell Ward Bynum’s Flourishing Ethics Theory, which has Aristotelian foundations in the philosophy of information, one of the contemporary philosophical fields. The article contains both the expected results and the results that emerged during the research. The expected result that emerged during the investigation is to examine this theory with its main discussions and to include its subjects and concepts. Another conclusion reached during the research is our determination that the philosophy-science tradition has shaped our age by the philosophy-technology movement with the influence of the internet, artificial intelligence and computing technologies, which are the tools of the information revolution.
Özet
Bilişim devrimiyle birlikte son zamanlarda bilişim teknolojileri sahasında önemli gelişmeler yaşanmaktadır. Bu gelişmeler hayatımızı özellikle bireysel ve toplumsal boyutlarıyla kültürel, ekonomik ve yönetişim faaliyetlerimiz gibi pek çok açıdan değiştirmekte ve dönüştürmektedir. Bu değişim ve dönüşüm olumlu gelişmelerin yanı sıra bazı etik sorunları da beraberinde getirmektedir. Bilişim devriminin etki alanlarından birisi de felsefedir. Bilişim felsefesi, bilişim devrimiyle gelişen konu, kavram ve olguların ontolojik, epistemolojik ve aksiyolojik yönlerini ele alan yeni bir felsefi yaklaşımdır. Öte yandan bilişim etiği, bilişim dünyasının yarattığı etik sorunları ele alan ve bu felsefi alanda çözümler üreten bir inceleme alanıdır. Bu makalenin temel amacı, bilişim çağının etik sorunlarını ele almada hem geleneksel etik yaklaşımları kullanan hem de metodoloji bakımından perspektif değişikliği öneren yeni bir bilişim etiği teorisini araştırmaktır. Bu teori, çağdaş felsefi alanlardan biri olan bilişim felsefesinde Aristotelesçi temellere sahip Prof. Terrell Ward Bynum’un Gelişim Etiği Teorisidir. Makalede hem beklenen sonuçlar hem de araştırma sırasında ortaya çıkan sonuçlar bulunmaktadır. Soruşturma sırasında ortaya çıkan beklenen sonuç, bu teorinin ana tartışmalarıyla birlikte incelenmesi, konu ve kavramlarına yer verilmesidir. Araştırma sırasında ulaşılan diğer sonuç ise felsefe-bilim geleneğinin, bilgi devriminin araçları olan internet, yapay zekâ ve hesaplama teknolojilerinin etkisiyle çağımızı felsefe-teknoloji akımı tarafından şekillendirdiğine yönelik tespitimizdir.
