Evaluation of Airway Transportation in Turkish Economy with Input-Output Analysis

Abstract
The aim of this study is to analysis the effects of airline sector located in service sectors on Turkish economy with the input-output method. Although the key sectors in Turkey's economy are mostly composed of industry sectors, the growth in the service sector has a limited spreading effect on the economy. Nowadays, a number of findings have revealed that some service sectors could play a key function in the development of Turkey’s economy. Backward and forward linkage effects and indexes of air freight services sector in 2002 and 2012 in Turkey were obtained through the Leontief inverse matrix. Although it is not a key sector for 2002 and 2012, it was concluded that it has the power to influence the sectors to which it provides input and it is a sector creating an added value for the country’s economy. Therefore, the contribution of "air transportation" to the service sector in recent years is significant. According to input-output analysis results, the air transport sector is among the industries having high productivity and has been one of the most dynamic and fast growing one in Turkey.
Özet
Bu çalışmanın amacı; Türkiye ekonomisinde hizmet sektörü içerisinde yer alan havayolu taşımacılığının ekonomi üzerindeki etkilerini girdi-çıktı yöntemiyle analiz etmektir. Türkiye ekonomisinde kilit sektörler çoğunlukla sanayi sektörlerinden oluştuğu için hizmet sektörlerinde yaşanacak büyümenin ekonomi üzerindeki yayılma etkileri sanayi sektörüne göre sınırlı kalmaktadır. Ancak günümüzde bazı hizmet sektörlerinin Türkiye ekonomisinin gelişmesinde kilit işlevler üstlenebileceğine dair bulgulara da rastlanmıştır. Türkiye’deki hava taşımacılığı hizmetleri sektörünün 2002 ve 2012 yıllarına ait geri ve ileri bağlantı etkileri ve endeksler, Leontief ters matris aracılığıyla elde edilmiştir. Bu sektörün 2002 ve 2012 yılı için kilit sektör olmamasına rağmen girdi sağladığı sektörleri etkileme gücüne sahip ve ülke ekonomisi için katma değer yaratan bir sektör olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Girdi çıktı analiziyle havayolu taşımacılığının verimliliği yüksek sektörler içerisinde yer alan ve Türkiye'de dinamik ve hızlı gelişen endüstrilerden biri olduğu ortaya konulmuştur.
