Efficacy and Safety of Drugs Used for the Treatment of Nocturnal Enuresis

Abstract
Nocturnal enuresis is one of the most common disorders of childhood and should be treated in order to prevent the emotional problems in children Treatment options have to be causal Urine production can be decreased by use of desmopressin treatment or fluid restrictions Functional bladder capacity can be increased by using imipramine or bladder stretching exercises While desmopressin and imipramine may have similar efficacy desmopressin is more safe Enuresis alarms and self awakening programmes are reliable methods for learning to wake at night Enuresis alarms continue to have the highest efficacy and the lowest relapse rate Combined programmes using alarms and medication together bring successful outcomes to most children Key words: Nocturnal Enuresis Desmopressin Imipramine Oxybutynin Enuresis Alarms
