Abstract

In this study, alternative credit risk measurement models for the measurement of risks that may occur within the scope of Treasury guarantees were investigated. CreditMetrics and CreditRisk+ models were applied to the bank data that had the highest share in the Treasury guaranteed external debt stock between the years 2012-2020. According to the findings, the ratio of the average loss values within the total portfolio in the CreditRisk+ model was quite close to the annual average ratio of the receivables arising from the undertaken payments due to Treasury guarantees to the Treasury-guaranteed external debt stock. In this context, new generation portfolio credit risk models are considered to be among the quick and easy-to-apply alternative methods that can be used in calculating the credit risk and expected loss arising from Treasury Guarantees.
