Abstract

Objective: It is necessary to increase the sustainable and healthy eating behaviors of individuals for leaving a livable world to next generations. This study was carried out to evaluate the relationship between sustainable and healthy eating behaviors, e-healthy diet literacy, and nutritional knowledge levels in adults. Materials and Methods: The study consists of 222 individuals (110 males, 102 females) aged between 18-65 years. Study data were obtained through a questionnaire. The “Sustainable and Healthy Eating Behaviors Scale” was used to evaluate sustainable and healthy eating behaviors. The “e-Healthy Diet Literacy Questionnaire (e-HDLQ)” was used to determine digital healthy diet literacy. The “Nutrition Knowledge Level for Adults Scale (YETBID)” was used to assess nutrition knowledge. Results: The mean total score of the sustainable and healthy eating behaviors scale was 4.0±1.05 in females and 3.9±0.87 in males (p>0.05). The mean e-HDLQ score of females (41.4±7.26) was higher than in females (38.6±7.20) (p<0.001). Both basic nutrition and food preference scores of females (59.9±10.48 and 40.4±8.95, respectively) were higher than in males (53.3±11.08 and 35.2±10.77, respectively) (p<0.001). There was a positive correlation between sustainable and healthy eating behaviors scale, e-HDLQ, YETBID basic nutrition, and food preference scores (p<0.001). There was also a positive correlation between e-HDLQ score, YETBID basic nutrition and food preference scores (p<0.05). Conclusion: Nutrition knowledge level and digital healthy diet literacy are important factors in acquiring sustainable and healthy eating behaviors. Therefore, it can be recommended to disseminate nutrition education by including the concept of sustainability.
