Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explain the valuation methodologies typically used in forestry by elaborating on the most often employed principles for assessing the economic value of forest ecosystem services, which are becoming increasingly essential. First, the notion of ecosystem and ecosystem services is discussed, followed by the value, valuation, and valuation methods associated with these concepts. In addition, the Travel Cost Method, the Contingent Value Determination Method, the Hedonic Pricing Method, and the Selection Experiments Method, which have found the most use in estimating the economic value of forest resources that do not have a market in our country, are discussed. Additionally, the application phases of these methods and their limitations are outlined. As a result, determining the economic value of non-marketable products and services produced by forest resources will provide comparable information in making effective decisions for sustainable and functional forest resources management. Lastly, forest ecosystem services that do not have a market should be reconstructed with their intended purpose and legal regulations, and the true value of these services to the forestry sector should be sought out.
