Abstract

In this research, it was aimed to investigate whether there is a significant difference in mathematical anxiety levels of 8th grade students in terms of, education level of parent, education level of father, occupation of parent, income of parents etc. In this research, the survey method was used among one of the descriptive research types. The sample of the research was consisted 619 8th grade students in total who are randomly selected from the six middle schools in the centre providence of Diyarbakir. The mathematical anxiety scale and personal information form were used together as the data collection tools which are developed by Bindak (2005) for elementary students. It was seen that there was a significant difference in mathematical anxiety scores of students in terms of mother occupation, socio-economic status of the family, having own workroom, self-confidence levels in mathematics and schools where students studied. There were no significant differences for other variables. In the light of the results obtained, suggestions were introduced for practice and research.
