Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine whether the cyberloafing scores of the prospective teachers differ in terms of different variables. Prospective teachers’ cyberloafing scores were investigated according to demographic characteristics (gender, department), satisfaction level from the department and preferred ranking of the department, internet use behaviors (frequency of daily internet usage, internet use skill levels). In line with this purpose, “Cyberloafing Scale” which was developed by Akbulut, Dursun, Dönmez and Şahin (2016) and questionnaire developed by the researchers were administered. The survey research which is one of the quantitative research method was used to collect data. The study was conducted during the spring term of 2018-2019 academic year. The sampling consists of 207 prospective teachers studying in various departments in the faculty of education in a state university. According to the findings, there were not significant differences in prospective teachers’ cyberloafing total scores in terms of gender and satisfaction from department. However, there were significant differences in terms of the department prospective teachers study, their daily internet usage time and internet use skill levels. Furthermore, there was no significant relationship between prospective teachers’ preferred ranking of the department and cyberloafing total scores.
