Abstract

The study, aimed to determine the induvidual’s emotion and behaviors they have when they don’t exercise at least four days a week and who are risky, dependent and have a high level of exercise addiction, and to determine their exercise addiction-happiness levels. Four hundred fifty-two individuals participated in the quantitative step of the research, in which the mixed model was used, and 103 individuals participated in the qualitative step. Open-ended question form, Exercise Addiction Scale and Happiness Scale were used in the study. While the content analysis was used in the analysis of qualitative data, regression and Pearson Moment Correlation analysis were used to analyze quantitative data. In study's qualitative findings, it was determined that the participants stated that they felt negative, felt that what had not happened as if it happened, had a disruption in social relations, and exhibited negative behavior when they could not participate in the exercise. In the study's quantitative findings, a moderate positive correlation was found between the happiness and exercise addiction scores of the participants. As a result of the regression analysis, it was determined that exercise addiction explained 19% of change in happiness, and exercise addiction positively and significantly predicted happiness. In the study, it was concluded that the emotions and behaviors of the participants were negatively affected when they could not participate in the exercise, and the increase in exercise addiction increased the level of happiness.
